Trauma, Anxiety, and Other Broken Things

The last couple of weeks I’ve been writing about the really difficult issue of depression and suicide. It’s a serious subject and one I’m going to be going back to, but I want to transition this week to thinking about trauma. Trauma can cause so many other issues – depression being only one. It can also cause anxiety, panic, and a number of other struggles.

The following is a poem I recently wrote on trauma and physical and psychological triggers.

Panic

It’s been two years, fifteen days since the last time I felt this pain
you were breaking my heart and I was inside out sick

Trauma is panics hand on my throat
Hook to gut
Nausea

Because my inside out body
remembers losing you to this feeling
